Use Online Scout Manager to track badge progress and update personal details.

Squirrels offers 4 to 6-year-olds a joyful first step into the world of Scouting, filled with imagination, play, and early learning adventures.

Each week, our Squirrels meet to enjoy fun, hands-on activities that spark creativity and curiosity. Through games, crafts, songs, stories, and outdoor play, they begin to develop important life skills such as teamwork, kindness, and communication. In our safe and nurturing setting, children gain confidence, build friendships, and take pride in their first achievements—laying the foundation for a lifetime of adventure and learning.

We work towards the Chief Scout’s Acorn Award

In our Squirrel Drey, we support each child to work towards the Chief Scout’s Acorn Award, the highest achievement for Squirrels. This involves completing four activity badges, four challenge awards, and their Membership Award, helping them try new things and grow in confidence as they prepare for Beavers.

The programme encourages exploration, creativity, and personal development. Children take part in themed adventures both inside and outside the meeting place, helping them discover their interests and strengths while having fun and feeling part of a team.

We celebrate progress through regular awards and recognition, and every Squirrel gets the chance to shine. For a full list of available badges, visit the Scouts website.

How old are Squirrel Scouts?

Squirrels are typically aged 4 to 6 years. Within Scouts guidelines, we offer flexibility—accepting children from the term after their 4th birthday, and supporting them until they are ready to move on to Beavers, usually around their 6th birthday.

If your child is approaching age 4, you’re welcome to join our New Member Waiting List, and we’ll contact you as soon as a place becomes available.

Join the 1st Benson Scouts Squirrels Group, where children begin their journey through Scouting with curiosity and joy. Our group provides a welcoming space for every child to feel included, supported, and excited to learn. Many of our Squirrels go on to Beavers and beyond, growing in confidence and character.

No uniform is required initially. Once your child has settled in and starts earning badges, we’ll advise on how to get their uniform and where to display their achievements. We’ll also guide you through their Promise, a fun and meaningful moment that marks their place in the Squirrel family.
